Populace at Being A Man Festival at Southbank Centre


Being a Man Festival addresses the challenges and pressures of masculine identity in the 21st century. It runs from Friday 27 November – Sunday 29 November 2015.

On Sunday 29 November, Populace’s Artistic Director Tom Ross-Williams will be on a panel entitled “Being a Gay Man” – discussing his show-in-development Man Up and adding a queer perspective to the conversation.

The panel investigate the extent to which gay men feel oppressed – because of homophobia, the feeling of being an outsider or other issues – and examine the impact of recent legal strides towards equality in the UK and around the world.

Hear from co-founder of The Quest, Adewale Adeniji; Patrick Cash, writer, performer and host of open-mic nights Spoken Word London and the gay men’s wellbeing forum Let’s Talk About Gay Sex & Drugs; Matthew Todd, Editor of Attitude magazine; and Tom Ross-Williams, artistic director of Populace, actor, theatre-maker and ambassador for Great Men.

The panel is chaired by Wayne Dhesi, Youth Programmes Manager at Stonewall, Attitude magazine columnist and Founder of R U Coming Out.
